Reading FC hold Huddersfield Town to goalless draw

The Terriers had the better of the first half, but Noel Hunt’s team had some good moments in the second half, with Mamadi Camara and Chem Campbell in particular having missed opportunities.

After being absent since January 4, Amadou Mbengue made his comeback, taking Harlee Dean’s place in the first half due to injury.

After suffering three straight losses, Huddersfield was clearly trying to turn that around, and they launched an early attack on Reading. Joel Pereira wasn’t in any danger, although the majority of the first five minutes were spent in the Royals’ half. Lasse Sorensen, a master at sustaining attacks and applying pressure to the backline, was especially important to the Terriers and exhausted Andre Garcia.

Michael Craig changing his footwear after likely underestimating the slickness of the playing surface was Reading’s most notable early knocking action, which started as early as the tenth minute. To the annoyance of the home crowd, Pereira’s collarbone problem caused him to slow down the pace even further.

Mamadi Camara ran up the opposite end before crashing over the crossbar for the visitors, sparking a flurry of action at both ends. Dion Charles’ first attempt, which was unsuccessful, came after 23 minutes. After Garcia was dispossessed in the Terriers’ half, Tawanda Chirewa ought to have performed better; the midfielder missed the mark from the edge of the box.
