Everton injury update on Vitalii Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson before the Merseyside derby against Liverpool.
Vitalii Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson’s injuries at Everton have been updated by David Moyes.
The Toffees lost badly to AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup, and neither full-back was included in the matchday
squad. It will be the last cup match at Goodison Park before the team moves to their new Bramley-Moore Dock home
after the Toffees lost 2-0.
Everton’s sole recognized left-back, Mykolenko, was sidelined due to a calf injury. Although he has mostly been a
substitute, Patterson has appeared off the bench in the last three games.
The final Merseyside derby to be played at Goodison Park will be on Wednesday, when Everton will focus on playing
Liverpool.
While versatile forward Dwight McNeil recovers from knee surgery, Everton will be without three strikers against
Liverpool: Youssef Chermiti (thigh), Armando Broja (ankle), and Dominic Calvert-Lewin (hamstring). Orel Mangala,
a loanee from Lyon, will miss the remainder of the season due to an ACL rupture, while Blues captain Seamus
Coleman was out against Bournemouth due to a persistent calf injury.
Everton was much below the necessary standards in the first half and were masters of their own demise against
Bournemouth. When Blues captain James Tarkowski hacked down Antoine Semenyo inside the area, they gifted the
Cherries a fantastic opportunity to take the lead. Semenyo took the initiative and beat Jordan Pickford with the
penalty kick.
Then, two minutes prior to halftime, Daniel Jebbison penalized Everton for Tarkowski’s careless possession loss.
After the interval, the Toffees did get better and scored three goals, including one from Charly Alcaraz’s debut free
kick.
“It was probably not our day when it comes like that, but at least we showed a bit of gumption in the second half and
tried to get ourselves back into the game,” Moyes said in comments on the defeat. Despite giving up two awful goals
and two truly bad goals, we persisted and made an effort to limit their opportunities. In the second half, Jordan
[Pickford] made a good save, but it was unsuccessful.
