5 free agents Huddersfield Town could seal bargain transfers for this summer
Joe Taylor and Dion Charles are two recent arrivals to Huddersfield Town, who made some astute moves during the January transfer window.
Charles is a seasoned goal scorer from his stint at Bolton Wanderers, and Taylor has previously excelled in League One with Lincoln City.
Their other two recruits were Tawanda Chirewa and Ruben Roosken, who both intend to make a significant contribution in the upcoming months.
The Terriers did lose Michal Helik, though, and it will be intriguing to watch how they perform without the Polish centre-back, who was once a vital component of Michael Duff’s strategy.
However, in this article, we’re looking ahead and naming five players the West Yorkshire team may try to sign in the summer on a free transfer.
Joel Pereira
Since becoming a regular starter at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, Joel Pereira has been a reliable custodian for Reading.
He has made a few mistakes during his time in Berkshire, but he has been a significant improvement over David Button, and he is someone the Terriers should keep an eye on ahead of the summer transfer market.
Chris Maxwell’s contract ends at the end of the season, and it remains to be seen whether Lee Nicholls will stay with the club beyond the summer window.
With this in mind, Pereira may make an excellent addition.
Paudie O’Connor
Paudie O’Connor, Lincoln’s centre back, has been nothing short of brilliant this season.
The Imps have had mixed success under Michael Skubala this season, but O’Connor has been outstanding, winning a significant number of duels.
He has established himself as one of the greatest central defenders in the third division, and he might help a Terriers squad that will most likely need to invest in their centre-back position this summer.
With Michal Helik gone and Nigel Lonwijk only on loan, making a bid for O’Connor would be a wise decision.
Ricardo Santos
Some Bolton Wanderers supporters have criticised Ricardo Santos this season.
Nonetheless, he is a significant player for them and a valuable asset at this level.
It’s unclear whether he’d join Huddersfield if they stayed in the third tier, but he’s certainly a guy the Terriers should keep an eye on.
Not only is he a vital presence on the field, but he can also be a leader, and having a strong voice like Santos in the back can’t hurt Duff’s chances.
In this regard, both O’Connor and Santos could be good additions.
Michael Smith
Michael Smith has shown in both the Championship and the third tier of English football in the past, holding a very impressive record in the latter.

Appearances | 257 |
Goals | 75 |
Assists | 29 |
Although he has not played every game for Sheffield Wednesday this season, he is still a vital character who has produced valuable attacking contributions.
Smith would only be a short-to-medium-term asset for the Terriers, but his goals and assists might help them gain promotion from their current league or remain in the second tier.
He could be a more realistic target if they win promotion.
Dan Agyei
Dan Agyei may not have been the most prolific figure in the third tier this season, but he has scored in double figures across all competitions.
That’s a respectable achievement, and he’s a difficult player for opposing defences to cope with.
At 27, he still has a lot to offer, and with Danny Ward’s future uncertain beyond the end of this season and Callum Marshall’s loan term ending when the season ends, having Agyei as a squad option might be very beneficial to the Terriers.
The John Smith’s Stadium might be an appealing destination for the Leyton Orient star.
