Coventry City transfer news via CoventryLive as Sky Blues defender urges the team to capture the services of experienced forward Jamie Paterson.
Liam Kitching has thrown his support behind calls for Coventry City to recruit free agent Jamie Paterson. After a month of training with the Sky Blues, the Coventry-born forward has pleased both head coach Frank Lampard and fellow players.
Lampard said the 33-year-old has been “first class” on and off the training ground as he attempts to sign a deal with his hometown club until the end of the season.
The former Swansea City star is already acquainted with Jake Bidwell, Joel Latibeaudiere, and new signing Matt Grimes from their time at the South Wales club, and he has quickly gotten to know the rest of the Ryton squad. City has until the third week of Match to sign the player, who is currently unsigned after departing MLS club Charlotte FC in December.
When asked about the player’s quality and effect on the training ground, Kitching stated: “He’s a great lad and good little player out on the training pitch.” But he’s a top boy in the changing room as well, so we’re encouraging each other and just trying to help.”
When asked if he would want to see Paterson sign a contract with the club to help them climb the table and qualify for the play-offs, the centre-back replied, “One hundred percent, yes. I’ve played against him a few times, and he’s always been a tricky player, so I believe he’d be a terrific fit for us.
Lampard has commented about the influence of the versatile and experienced forward, stating that he is not just “fit and sharp” but also a “brilliant” character in the dressing room.
Meanwhile, former Swans teammate Latibeaudiere remarked of the forward: “Straight away, he’s a cheerful character who has been in a number of dressing rooms over his career. To be honest, simply seeing a new face and the lively personality that he is made a tremendous difference in the mood; he chats to everyone, which was great for everyone.
“And then on the pitch he’s been getting back fit and involved in the sessions, so we’ll just wait and see what happens.”
In terms of what Paterson could offer to the team, Latibeaudiere is confident in the player’s abilities, stating, “He can play five positions, anywhere across the front five, left wing, up front, left eight, right eight, right wing, so he obviously brings that versatility and experience.”
“He’s been in this league for a long time and has played for a variety of teams, so that’s also in his bag. And he just has that calm presence up front whether we need to make a pass, score a goal, or accomplish something.”
