Everton defender Nathan Patterson suffers a minor injury in training

Everton defender Nathan Patterson has suffered a minor injury in training, according to Bobble.

The dependable Toffees publication (followed by the likes of Alan Myers, Fabrizio Romano, Jason Burt and Christopher Beesley) claimed via X on Friday afternoon that the 23-year-old Everton star is poised to miss the club’s FA Cup fourth-round encounter against Bournemouth on Saturday as a precaution.

To help manager David Moyes, Patterson is set to return to full first-team training the following week.

Due to his injury problems, the Scotland international has only made eight appearances this season across all competitions and has not yet played 90 minutes.

After barely making a comeback to action in December of last year, he made a brief appearance against Leicester City last weekend.

Moyes will be hoping that Patterson can get back to full fitness by the end of the month, as Everton could need him in their ranks.

Having the full-back return will be a huge boost for the Goodison Park team, who need as much squad depth as possible as the season draws to a close.

Ashley Young, 39, has been the go-to right-back in Patterson’s absence, but after playing in 23 games across all competitions so far this season, he could use some rest. With 23 games played, Everton is two spots and nine points above the relegation zone, and Moyes will be eager to guide them into a top-half finish. Securing a spot in the FA Cup’s fifth round will be a huge boost ahead of Wednesday’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Goodison Park, and they will need to field a strong team tomorrow to defeat the Cherries.
