B B C Sports: Ipswich Q&A: Who plays in goal and in attack?
In a special Ipswich Town Q&A session, we asked Graeme McLoughlin, sports editor of BBC Radio Suffolk, your questions.
This section focusses on the goalkeeping position and Omari Hutchinson’s form. James enquired: Given the options of Arijanet Muric, Christian Walton, Alex Palmer, and Cieran Slicker, who should be Ipswich’s custodian? Graeme stated, “When everyone is fit, I would say Christian Walton.” While some of Town’s League One players continue to play regularly, he is one of a handful who have had to be more patient as new faces join the club. I believe he deserves this opportunity. Given his present injury, Alex Palmer will most likely make his FA Cup debut for Ipswich this weekend. I wonder if one error too many from Aro Muric might even cost him a place on the bench.
If Walton is gone for a few weeks, Palmer has an early chance to keep the shirt for the remainder of the season. Golfer wondered if it was time to bench Omari Hutchinson. His passing and decision-making appear erratic. I admire his enthusiasm and know he’s always a threat, but he’s been dribbling into double/triple teams and giving up the ball too quickly. Graeme stated, “For me, Omari Hutchinson plays.” I don’t think he or others have benefited from rotation elsewhere on the squad, which has been largely due to injuries this season. I liked the front-four pick versus Southampton. but the execution on the day was not the best. It was the first time we had seen Hutchinson, Julio Enciso and Nathan Broadhead start together and at this moment in time, that would be my preferred trio behind Liam Delap.
