“Not gutted” – Middlesbrough FC backed over £10m Liverpool call

Middlesbrough were interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton in the final hours of the transfer window, but the 22-year-old was out of their price range.

As Michael Carrick attempted to bolster his squad for the run-in, Boro were monitoring Morton and pondering a £10 million approach, according to reporter Paul Joyce. Morton, a midfielder who is constantly on the lookout for the ball, is frequently seen dropping deep to receive it from his central defenders before turning away from pressure and going through the midfield lines.

Because of this, he would fit right in with Carrick’s ball-dominant team. Morton remained unsigned amid interest from Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, and Atalanta during the offseason.

Boro faced a deadline of 11 p.m. to complete the deal, and journalist Dominic Shaw noted a valuation discrepancy between the clubs. Nizaar Kinsella acknowledged that an agreement was not reached, leading to further updates.

The verdict on Tyler Morton amid Middlesbrough interest

FLW’s Middlesbrough fan pundit Jasper Hudson has shared his reaction to transfer rumours and endorsed Boro’s call not to pursue a deal at the sum Liverpool demanded.

He said: “The agreement for Tyler Morton came out of nowhere, really.

“There was no prior conjecture or links. There were obviously rumours of Dan Barlaser departing earlier, which would’ve freed up the position to bring in another midfielder. I feel like we were perhaps waiting for the Emmanuel Latte Lath money to be confirmed and to go through to make a bid.

“I don’t think it was one that we snatched at. I believe there would have been some understanding of where some of the funds may go in the event that Latte Lath left. Or he could be a substitute if Barlaser leaves. Although £10 million is undoubtedly a significant sum, it is anticipated that you will receive a talented player in exchange.

“Of course, there are whispers circulating among Liverpool supporters that the team doesn’t currently have enough room for him. He needed to move away, but it doesn’t seem like it’s working out. As a supporter, though, I’m not devastated that we don’t have a midfield player.

“Barlaser is still with us. That is a good midfield as long as Hackney and Morris can play, even though he isn’t at the level we would prefer. I hope Jonny Howson recovers from his injuries quickly.

“We chose to bring in forwards and sort of use up our transfer window by bringing in attackers, even though it would have been good to add another midfield player. Although closing a transaction would have been good, £10 million is a lot of money.

Additionally, there was no assurance regarding the player. Given his lack of senior football experience, I believe a loan with a buyout option could have been a better offer. For a player who hasn’t had that experience, the stakes are high.

Tyler Morton would be a good addition to any Championship side

Despite his youth, Morton has already shown off his skills in the Championship over the past two seasons, and both Hull and Blackburn fans have been praising him for his efforts.

Given his age, he has the ability to improve and reach his full potential in the future, particularly because the Liverpool young player is wasting away at Anfield and has to find a loan or permanent home as soon as possible.

In addition to making his Premier League and Champions League debuts with Liverpool, the 22-year-old has already made 79 Championship matches.

But this summer, he needs a move, and maybe Boro will show interest once more. However, that might rely on what happens to Hackney at The Riverside.
