Inside Huddersfield Town’s big team meeting as Michael Duff message to players clear
As his team gets ready to play Reading tomorrow afternoon, Huddersfield Town head coach Michael Duff is anxious
to ensure that last weekend’s loss to Northampton Town “stays a one off.”
After suffering a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to the fifth-from-bottom Cobblers at Sixfields the previous time out, the
Terriers enter tomorrow’s match at John Smith’s Stadium.
Town found themselves 3-0 down within the opening 51 minutes of the contest, and were unable to claw back the
deficit despite Herbie Kane and Jonathan Hogg netting in the final 20 minutes.

“It was useless for me to stand at the front and pontificate, saying, ‘Do this, don’t do this, don’t do that,’ during our
quite large meeting with them on Monday morning. We managed to get them to open up a bit, and we’ll see if it was
successful. Since then, we’ve had two really terrific training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday,” the head coach
stated during yesterday’s news conference.
“You may pout and feel sorry for yourself in this game; nobody cares about you, and there are always reasons why,
but on Saturday, there was none. We were beaten because we weren’t good enough, so there’s no use in attempting to
save face or whatever.
I’ve also warned you that you’ll face four or five of them games this season, but don’t worry about it; we defeated
them. In the same way, you will have four or five instances in which you are exceptionally skilled and win three or
four nil. We have already had two or three of these instances, so don’t worry about them.
You worry about it if it’s back-to-back and happens every week, but the one thing you can’t have, that can’t continue,
is that one lack of effort and vigour, with or without the ball. It is one-time, and we must ensure that it remains such.

“Not much has changed since Ruben Selles was replaced by Noel Hunt as manager last month. They’ve maintained
their upward momentum, but they lost Sam Smith to Wrexham. It will be interesting to see if that hurts them or not,
because he’s a decent player.
They have a distinct style of playing, and there’s a lot of great energy and quality there as well.
Much of it is our fault; we’re at home and must bounce back from last week, but if we believe that we’re just going to
win because we’re at home, we’ve been burned by that one a few times. They are a strong team that will harm us if we
don’t play.
