‘I made a mistake’ – Richie Wellens admits Ange Postecoglou has ignored his efforts to apologise after Leyton Orient boss received backlash on social media for making ‘stupid comment’ about Tottenham head coach.

Richie Wellens, Leyton Orient manager, has admitted that he made a mistake by mocking Ange Postecoglou, revealing that the Australian rejected his apologies.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Leyton Orient have dealt with a number of injuries throughout their team this season, but the setbacks haven’t slowed their progress towards League Two playoff positions. However, when the O’s lost 2-1 against Stockport County, manager Wellens refused to blame the injuries and criticised Postecoglou, claiming he is ‘not Postecoglou who will keep using it as an excuse.’

    WHAT WELLENS SAID

Wellens told talkSPORT: “I haven’t. I’ve tried it. However, they had an important game. It was Saturday night, and I attempted to contact someone at Tottenham, but they had a crucial game [against Brentford] on Sunday. “They won, which pleased me. I have obviously apologised, and I believe the subject is now closed. He has a much more vital duty to complete. I made a mistake and have sorry for it. Tottenham is a fantastic football club, and I hope they keep him. “Jamie and Josh have been terrific for our football club, and we hope to continue this partnership. I want Tottenham to do well. They’re on our doorstep and we want to keep that relationship. I made a mistake and we move on.”
