Ex-PGMOL chief shares if player could face action after what he did to ref in Coventry v Leeds

Keith Hackett shared his thoughts on an unknown incident involving a Coventry City player during their defeat to Leeds United.

Leeds beat Coventry 2-0 at the CBS Arena on Wednesday, resulting them a five-point lead over the two teams directly below them in the Championship.

Graham Smyth’s unseen moments piece for the Yorkshire Evening Post [6 February] revealed a tense scene.

Joel Latibeaudiere lashes out at referee in Coventry 0-2 Leeds United

Latibeaudiere allegedly said “you’re so bad at your job” to referee Dean Whitestone during the match.

That incident occurred after the man in the middle failed to get Joel Piroe to exit the pitch via the shortest route available after he was replaced.

Latibeaudiere received no discipline on the pitch, and former PGMOL chief Hackett believes he will not face any further action.

Hackett told MOT Leeds News that if he yelled such comments in his ear, he would receive a yellow card immediately.

“Referees who allow this type of speech and do not respond appropriately to protest are not serving the game or their colleagues well.

“He should have taken the player aside and urged that he modify his behaviour. If he ignores that warning, he receives a yellow card.

“On this occasion, there is unlikely to be any further action.”

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke

Leeds United on course for Premier League promotion

The Whites’ victory over Coventry, following a 7-0 loss to Cardiff City, provides them some breathing room at the summit.

Daniel Farke has faced criticism this season, but he has led Leeds to their expected position, which they must maintain.

The focus now shifts to an FA Cup fourth-round match against Millwall, with Patrick Bamford ruled out. However, the ultimate goal for the season is to return to the Premier League in May.
