Chris Sutton predicts thumping Stoke City vs Cardiff scoreline ‘to rub mate’s nose in it’

Chris Sutton is forecasting the outcome of the FA Cup fourth round, which includes Stoke City’s match against

Cardiff at home.

Chris Sutton believes that Mark Robins, a former Norwich teammate, will lead Stoke City to a decisive victory over

Cardiff in this weekend’s FA Cup fourth round.

In his weekly column for the BBC, Sutton has been previewing all the matches, this time against the Doves, in an

attempt to get as many scorelines correct as possible. He acknowledges that his thoughts about the match at the

bet365 Stadium (Saturday at 3pm) may be more about disappointing his Cardiff-supporting friend and fellow BBC

presenter Jason Mohammed than anything else.

Last week’s 2-1 victory at Hull, which handed Mark Robins, Sutton’s former Norwich City teammate, his first league

victory as manager, put Stoke in 18th place in the Championship. Robins, who took over on New Year’s Day, also led

the Potters to victory at Sunderland in the FA Cup third round. In his six games as manager, the Potters have won

two, drawn three, and lost one.

Cardiff fell 7-0 to title-chasing Leeds United last weekend, and they are currently in 19th place, just one point

behind.

Sutton is going for a 4-0 Stoke win and said: “I really wish I could have been on Final Score last Saturday alongside

my friend Jason Mohammad, who had a day to forget. Jason posted on X at the start of the show that there would be

live updates from Leeds against his team – Cardiff – who ended up losing 7-0.

“Cardiff had been on a decent run of form until that defeat but I am afraid I have got more bad news for Jason

because I think his side are going out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

In recent times, Stoke has also improved under my former Norwich teammate Mark Robins, despite the fact that

both teams are just a few points above the Championship relegation zone.

“Robins had an amazing run to the FA Cup semi-finals – and almost the final – with Coventry last season, of course,

but the scoreline I am going with is more a case of me wanting to rub Jason’s nose in it, rather than based on science

the way my predictions usually are.”
