Cardiff City boss Omer Riza has said Jamilu Collins is ‘searching’ for a new club.
Cardiff City are looking to offload the left-back in the near future, despite the end of the British window earlier this week. Some transfer markets remain open abroad.
Collins, 30, has made only three appearances in the Championship so far this season. He is out of contract in the summer and is due to become a free agent as things stand.
In this latest update regarding his situation at the Cardiff City Stadium, Riza has confirmed he is seeking a new home, as per a report by Wales Online: “At the moment, JC is searching for another club. We’ve had good, honest chats. The windows are not closed abroad, so things might still happen there. In the meantime, he’ll continue to act professionally and train in order to play games. I’m not sure what will happen with that.”
Cardiff City update regarding Jamilu Collins
Cardiff City signed Collins back in 2022 to boost their defensive ranks.
He has since struggled with injuries though and has fallen down the pecking order.
After making the move to Wales, the full-back told the club website at the time: “I’m really excited to be in Cardiff, and I can’t wait to get started.
“The Club has great history, and when I got the call to come to Cardiff, I was so excited, I couldn’t resist. I’m looking forward to the challenge of the new season.
“The goal is to fight for the Premier League. I can’t wait to meet the supporters and to fight for the jersey.”
Collins started out at Abuja Football College Academy before moving to Croatia as a youngster to join Rijeka.
He never played for the first-team of the latter though and was loaned out to Pomorac, Krka, Sibenik and Istra to get some experience.
The Nigeria international was then snapped up by Paderborn in 2017 and went on to play 136 matches for the German outfit, 30 of which came in the Bundesliga.
What now for Jamilu Collins at Cardiff City?
It appears his time at Cardiff City will be coming to an end soon.
Teams in countries such as Turkey and USA can still sign players.
Letting Collins leave will suit all parties involved and will free up space and funds in the Bluebirds’ ranks.
Riza’s men are in FA Cup action this weekend against Stoke City.
