Aston Villa, one of the busiest clubs in the Premier League during the January transfer window, is now apparently aiming to sign Unai Emery in the summer.
Aston Villa transfer news
Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia were welcomed by the Villans at the beginning of the transfer window, and they finished it with a rush of additions in the form of Marco Asensio, Marcus Rashford, and Axel Disasi. The Villans wasted little time in acquiring five players in total, while also letting go of Diego Carlos and Jhon Duran in a high-profile trade.
However, that does not mean that their issues, especially at center-back, have been resolved forever. Disasi is undoubtedly a good addition, but since he is just on loan, it is not surprising that Aston Villa has already apparently begun looking at Emery’s longer-term options.
The Boot Room claims that after failing to persuade Villarreal to make a January transfer, Aston Villa is now preparing a summer bid to get Juan Foyth from the La Liga team.
Speaking to reporters near the end of the window, Emery mentioned the defender by name, demonstrating his team’s interest in him. “I worked with Juan Foyth, so of course I know him,” the Spaniard told reporters.
Given that they won the Europa League together at Villarreal in the 2020–21 season, Emery’s mentioned time with the defender was undoubtedly a fruitful one as well.
“Heroic” Foyth can be redeemed in the Premier League.
Foyth’s sole option since leaving Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 has been to finish his Premier League comeback and return to haunt his old team.
The Argentine, a defender who can play both center and right back, would provide Emery with immediate coverage in two places and develop into the long-term replacement that Chelsea loanee Disasi is currently lacking.
Foyth has unresolved business in English football, having been dubbed “heroic” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig following his impressive performance in Villarreal’s 2021 Europa League final triumph over Manchester United.
These days, Foyth’s skill and Aston Villa’s interest are well known. Therefore, the 27-year-old appears to be someone to keep an eye on when summer approaches, as those in the Midlands may call again.
