Ipswich Borough Council win award for recycling efforts

The ‘innovative’ Ipswich Town Football Club gateway project earned the team the Keep Britain Tidy Outstanding Service Award 2025.

Around Portman Road, the council placed 21 trash cans with football and recycling themes in anticipation of Ipswich Town’s return to the Premier League in August.

Inspired by Ipswich Town’s blue and white scarf, the new bins are meant to boost recycling and foster a feeling of Ipswich pride.

Their tagline is “A Proud Premier League Town – think smart, think blue, recycle.”

At an awards ceremony in Liverpool on Thursday, January 30, the council, which was up against the London Borough of Redbridge and the City of London Corporation, was declared the winner.

As the portfolio holder for the environment and climate change for the Ipswich Borough Council, Councillor Phil Smart stated: “This award reflects our commitment to creating sustainable solutions that benefit both the environment and our community.”

“This collaborative project has encouraged the wider community to take pride in our town,” a club representative continued.
