‘I always wanted to play for Reading’ says deadline day recruit from Burton Albion
A deadline-day loan from League One struggling team Burton Albion till the end of the season was finalized by the 32-year-old. This deal completes the ‘Didcot Triangle’ for the Wiltshire native, who has nearly 400 career matches and four EFL promotions under his credit. He has also played for Oxford United and Swindon Town.Billy was born to Wales international father Paul, who is a legend at the County Ground, when he was playing for the Robins.
After moving to Elm Park in 1996, Paul played 41 games for the team until leaving in 1998 when Tommy Burns demoted them to the third division.
When Bodin signed, he told the club’s media, “I remember coming to watch my dad, I think I was about six or seven, because he did play for the club many years ago.” “I’ve known the team since I was a young child, and I believe they shouldn’t be in League One at all. Friends of mine who have played for the club have only positive things to say about it.
“I’m from Swindon, so it’s just down the road. Growing up, you always had to hear or see about the club. It was a team I had always wanted to play for, particularly during the Championship years when I faced Reading squads. I think I played some of my best games for Preston versus Reading there, and it was always a terrific location to play. I’ve always watched this club, and I’m glad to be here.”
The Royals are in eighth place and only below the play-offs on goal differential. He is eligible to make his debut on Saturday against Huddersfield Town.”It’s a club that should never be in this league,” Bodin said. “Being at Burton and being involved in the game last week—it’s a very talented squad that can definitely do things this season and get into those play-off spots.”
