EFL to ‘send letter to Frank Lampard’ after incident with Leeds fans v Coventry
At the Coventry Building Society Arena on Wednesday, February 5, Leeds defeated Lampard’s Coventry 2-0, and the away end sang many variations of “Stop crying, Frank Lampard.”
In response to the visiting fans, Lampard was reportedly spotted cupping his ear. Former PGMOL chairman Hackett believes the 46-year-old former England midfielder may receive a reminder about his behavior, especially in light of recent Premier League statements on players who incite the crowd.
Hackett stated in an interview with MOT Leeds News: “The Premier League spokesperson, not an EFL player, made the comment regarding the players’ excessive celebrations.Perhaps the EFL takes a different tack.
“However, Frank Lampard’s actions are not advised, and he might receive a letter from the authorities offering him some operational advice.” Behind the scenes, clubs and the police put a lot of effort into managing and controlling spectators. It’s crucial for crowd safety.
The EFL may get in touch with Frank Lampard regarding the Leeds United incident.
Whites fans and Lampard, a former Chelsea midfielder who managed Derby County when they defeated Leeds 4-3 overall in a thrilling play-off semi-final during the 2018–19 season, are incredibly close.
Lampard was also in charge of the “Spygate” affair, in which a Leeds employee was discovered acting strangely outside Derby’s training facility. Then manager Marcelo Bielsa was fined £200,000 after he acknowledged that he had sent a staff member to attend every team practice that season (BBC Sport).
Given his longtime affiliation with Chelsea, for whom he holds the club’s record goalscorer, Lampard was already a rather hated figure among Elland Road supporters.
However, the history of “that” playoff game and the “Spygate” scandal solidified the distaste, and Leeds supporters have no problem insulting Lampard whenever they can.
Last night’s celebration of a victory that put the Whites five points ahead of everyone else in the Championship seems to have touched a sensitive spot. There is a possibility that the Coventry manager may be called soon, but it is unclear if the authorities will decide to respond.
