‘Still struggling’: Burnley injury update on Josh Brownhill and Luca Koleosho after Oxford United absence

Burnley manager Scott Parker has revealed that Josh Brownhill and Luca Koleosho’s health for Saturday’s FA Cup match against Southampton is a concern.

The Clarets duo missed their second game in a row, as Parker’s team defeated Oxford United 1-0.

Brownhill has missed the last two games against Portsmouth and Oxford due to an injury sustained during the second half of last week’s goalless draw with Leeds United.

Koleosho, however, sustained a knock during training last Friday in preparation for the trip to Fratton Park.

When asked for an update following last night’s game, Parker responded, “They’re still suffering. Browny and Luca both failed to make it.

“Luca isn’t very lengthy, about a week or two. We’ll watch how things go over the next week to see if he makes it to the weekend, but it could happen sooner.

“It’s the same with Josh too.”

On Tuesday night, Parker gave Jonjo Shelvey his debut off the bench, as the midfielder made his first appearance since joining the Clarets on a short-term deal until the end of the season in mid-January.

The seasoned midfielder has been working on his fitness since then and is still not match-ready, with Parker warning: “He’s still getting there. He has only been with us for about three weeks, but he is definitely getting there.

“You can see his quality in training and in what he possesses. He’ll be important for us this year, or for the remainder of the season.

“He brings big experience and he definitely has that quality about him as well, so I’m pleased he got some minutes and he helped us see the game out for us a little bit.”

Marcus Edwards, a deadline day addition who remained an unused replacement, is another player who needs to gain some training time after not appearing for Sporting since November.

On the injury front, winger Enock Agyei played 45 minutes for Burnley’s Under-21 team against Reading on Tuesday night.

Jordan Beyer, Aaron Ramsey, and Nathan Redmond are all still out, while Mike Tresor is also injured.
