Reading FC View from the Stands: Royals squeeze past Bolton

Up forward, Sam Smith’s absence was undoubtedly felt, but young Jayden Wareham stepped up and showed his work ethic and resolve to cause trouble for the Bolton back line when it mattered most.

Luke Southwood, a former Royal, was untested in the first forty-five minutes as neither team threatened the goalkeeper. Both sides were restricted to long shots and half chances, with Reading’s greatest chance at goal before halftime likely being a feeble effort from Chem Campbell.

Both teams were set up out of possession, and Reading’s attacking options were lacking, as evidenced by the final third’s poor to nonexistent quality. However, given recent first half performances, starting at 0-0 at halftime was not a bad start, leaving us with too much work to do on Tuesday against Burton.
