Reading FC transfer nightmare has been eased by Nottingham Forest
In the later part of the transfer window, Sam Smith also left the team, joining League One rivals Wrexham.
Given that the team was unable to acquire a traditional central striker to take Smith’s spot, he will be much missed.
After graduating from the academy, he may not have flourished during his first stint at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, but he performed admirably during his second stint in Berkshire, becoming a vital member and helping the Royals remain afloat in the third division the previous season.
The forward’s departure will be deeply lamented because he was able to build on that this season, scoring goals that helped Noel Hunt’s team advance to the playoffs.
Billy Bodin, a recent recruit, is capable of scoring goals at this level, but since he isn’t a natural center striker, he probably won’t be a good enough replacement.
Since Bodin isn’t a striker, this isn’t his fault, but he can still contribute in some meaningful ways, and it will be intriguing to see what effect he can have.
A major plus is that Forest’s Bindon has been loaned back to the Royals for the rest of the season.
Bindon, a New Zealand international, has been a great asset since joining in the summer of 2023.
When pushed to play right-back last season, he may have struggled, but it’s obvious that’s not his position, and he’s developed into a beast in central defense.
He has been able to elevate his game this season after displaying his class last term and creating a strong connection with Amadou Mbengue in the latter months of that season to maintain the Berkshire team in the third division.
Although the Berkshire team has occasionally struggled away from home this season, Bindon has hardly made a mistake, and the Kiwi deserves a great deal of respect given that he is only 20 at

He has adapted to life in England quite well, which has let him stand out and make an impression in the third division. His constancy is among his most remarkable qualities.
Even though Bindon is currently only making an impression in League One, it appears like he could easily transition to the Championship, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he were loaned to a second-tier English side in the summer.
That the Royals have kept the New Zealand international for the rest of the season is a huge relief for the team given his performances, Mbengue’s injury, and the lack of depth at their center-back position.
Despite Harlee Dean’s recent success, Bindon and Mbengue are the only senior choices available to support him.
Abraham Kanu has occasionally struggled at the back, Jeriel Dorsett has been out for a long time, and players like him, Louie Holzman, and Michael Stickland require more time to mature before being included as regular starts.
In light of this, Bindon’s loss on Monday without repayment of the debt would have been disastrous and
At the time of his transfer to Forest, Bindon had just five months remaining on his contract.
In light of this, the Royals decided to cash in on him now rather than risk losing him at the end of the season for a nominal compensation amount.
It makes sense to sell him and return the debt because it looked likely that he would move on in the summer.
A free agent may be able to sign because Forest may be covering all or part of the New Zealand international’s salary. Dean Bouzanis also left the SCL Stadium yesterday.
But that will rely on if the Royals are willing to sign someone else and whether
