I was very disappointed on Saturday. A major game, a tremendous chance, but unfortunately, another huge opportunity missed. I don’t want to be Mr Pessimistic, but it’s difficult to see how Ipswich Town will get out of this situation. We played well in the first half against Southampton, created chances, and could have been up at halftime.

Ipswich Town fan columnist Joey Sadler Ultimately, we weren’t, and we’re left at Portman Road cursing our custodian. The Blues have done so much well in the last two years. Given our recent growth, this is evident. However, not this season, as they have made more mistakes than correct ones, even in recruitment. Given what Mark Asthon and the recruitment team have done for us, it feels unfair to condemn them too harshly, but I believe we have suffered with recruitment this year. We were all aware that Town’s recruitment strategy was to bring in young Championship players with high potential and stock. To some extent, the signing of Liam Delap. Omari Hutchinson and Dara O’Shea have accomplished this, but far too many others have failed. especially in the goalkeeping department.

The choice to sign Alex Palmer on deadline day had to be taken. There was no choice. We just could not continue the season with Aro Muric in goal. This is not a personal assault on Aro, and I hope he has his own Václav Hladký-like resurgence and one day returns to be Town’s number one. But it can’t happen this season; we need someone else in the sticks. We’re hoping Alex is that man. It’s yet another Championship deal, but I believe it provides us with the much-needed stability. The preceding two Januarys were critical in getting Town up. They achieved all of their goals. I think we’ve had a decent one again this time around. but the lack of another striker does worry me and if injuries arise, could really cost us.
