‘Extremely tough’: Manchester United youngster sends farewell note following transfer
Ruben Curley, a young player, admitted it was a difficult decision to leave Manchester United for Stoke City on transfer deadline day.
With the clock ticking on Monday, Stoke made a late offer to sign the 19-year-old on a permanent basis. He has first joined Stoke’s Under-21s, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Curley spent a decade on United’s books and was instrumental in the Under-18s’ success last season. Last season, he appeared in 29 games across all minor levels, scoring three goals and assisting three times.
However, his contract at Old Trafford expired at the end of this season, and it is understood United did not want to trigger the one-year extension in his deal to keep him at the club until 2026. He will now continue to grow at Stoke, with the goal of breaking into the Championship club’s first squad.
Curley said goodbye to United in an Instagram post, writing: “For the past 13 years, Manchester United has been my home.” I’ve created some wonderful memories, met some lifetime friends, and had so many amazing adventures because to this group.
“I’d like to thank all of my coaches and staff throughout the years for supporting me through the highs and lows and developing me into the player and, more importantly, the person I am today. I’d also like to thank all of my teammates, and I wish you all the best on your endeavours.
