Exclusive: Watford FC in talks to sign Fulham winger on loan

After making just one appearance in the Premier League this season while playing on the outside of the Cottagers first team under Marco Silva, the 21-year-old needs consistent playing time.

Additionally, Watford needs to bolster its wide areas in the final third after forward Kwadwo Baah sustained an injury last month. Tom Cleverley has identified Godo, who played on loan at Wigan Athletic in League One last season, as a temporary reinforcement.

Watford, who have been in the running for the Championship’s top six all season, has had a quiet midseason transfer window.

Baah pulled out early in the first half of a 2-1 loss against Preston North End, but recent injuries have made it more urgent for Cleverley to bolster his team, particularly in attacking areas.

There have been three additions to the first team: Irish defender James Abankwah temporarily joined from the same team as the Hornets, left-back Caleb Wiley has been loaned in from Chelsea, and goalkeeper Egil Selvik arrived just weeks after joining Italian team Udinese, who are also owned by the Pozzo Family.

However, Godo would be Watford’s fourth and possibly last addition if a deal is finalized.

Last season, the winger made 34 appearances for Wigan in League One, with three goals and four assists in the English third division.

If Watford’s current team is lacking in one area, it might be a number of players with exceptional speed and flair.

However, Godo would contribute to this, particularly without Baah, and he is a young player who requires playing time to develop as a player after Marco Silva hardly gave him a kick at Craven Cottage.

Watford will be hopeful that a deal for Godo is completed by 11 p.m., but a deal may ultimately depend on if Fulham buys another winger to replace the injured Harry Wilson.
