Over the past three seasons, the Toffees have placed no higher than 15th in the Premier League standings, and Sean Dyche and Frank Lampard have kept the team from going down.
The Merseyside team appeared to be sleepwalking into yet another relegation dogfight with Dyche in charge until recently, but with three straight victories, David Moyes has already transformed the culture.
“At the start of a season, and you look at a club like Everton, and Everton fans are going to hate me for saying this,” Goldstein stated in a live talkSPORT interview [4 February, 6:10pm].
“Stay up” [in the Premier League] has been Everton’s recent directive. They are much more than just a “stay up” club.
In agreement, Darren Bent said, “Yes, stay up.”
Everton to pull away from Premier League relegation battle
There has been a total lack of ambition at Goodison Park in recent seasons, with former owner Farhad Moshiri becoming a controversial figure for that exact reason.
Of course, the club has been hindered by Profit and Sustainability Rules, meaning activity in the transfer market has been at an all-time low, but that finally looks set to change under new ownership.
The Friedkin Group have already endeared themselves to the supporters, replacing Dyche with Moyes, which looks to have been a brilliant decision with three consecutive victories in the league.
With victories over Brighton, Leicester City, and Tottenham, the Toffees are now nine points above the relegation zone, and Moyes’ return to Goodison Park has been met with a lot of enthusiasm.
Although there is still plenty that TFG needs to do to start contending for a high spot in the Premier League table, the initial indications are encouraging.
Other Everton news: The Friedkin Group has already taken a remarkable step that might usher in a new era on Merseyside.
