Vini Souza’s future at Sheffield United has been settled for the time being following the closure of the January transfer window.

In January, ESPN in Brazil reported that Palmeiras were interested in signing the midfielder.

However, no trade was reached, and he remains at Bramall Lane as the Championship season comes to a close.

The 25-year-old has appeared 22 times in the second tier this season, as the club seeks promotion to the Premier League.

When asked about Souza’s long-term future, FLW’s Sheffield United fan pundit Jimmy from Blades Ramble argued he should be viewed as an important part of Chris Wilder’s strategy.

He believes the January market was a strong indication of the club’s ambition, which will be matched by players such as Souza, Gustavo Hamer, and Anel Ahmedhodzic.

“The position we’re in right now, we’re signing players in the hopes that they’ll be able to step up to the Premier League,” Jimmy told Football League World.

“Obviously, we signed Vini while we were in the Premier League, and he did not have a good season.

“However, coming down to the Championship and the reduction in levels, he’s been just great.

“When he’s been available, he’s frequently been the greatest player on the field and made a significant contribution to our team.

“So I’d like to believe Vini Souza has a long-term future at Sheffield United, but we as a club will have to match the ambition of some of these players.”

“I believe we are demonstrating ambition with some of the movements we are making in the transfer market.

“Players such as Vini and Gus Hamer, as well as Ahmedhodzic, will see our additions and conclude that we are a forward-thinking team looking to improve.

“It’s very, very good to be a Blade at the moment.”

Sheffield United presently sit second in the Championship table, two points behind leaders Leeds United.

Gustavo Hamer

Souza proved himself as essential for Sheffield United.
Sheffield United made a wise decision in retaining Souza, who has emerged as an important character in the Championship.

Given how last year went, some will still question his suitability for life in the Premier League.

However, his performances this year have been good, and the experience he has earned will help him prepare for the top level if the Blades are promoted.

The new owners’ start at Bramall Lane has been positive, with excitement at an all-time high among Sheffield United supporters.
