‘I’ll be honest’ – Michael Rose reveals thoughts when his old boss took Stoke City job

Michael Rose worked with Mark Robins at Coventry City and has faith that his new, old manager can get the better of another challenge at Stoke City

Stoke City defender Michael Rose has expressed his thoughts on the appointment of his former Coventry City manager, Mark Robins, as the new head of the Potters. Rose, who played under Robins at Coventry, believes that his former boss is well-equipped to tackle the challenges at Stoke City.

Reflecting on his time under Robins, Rose highlighted the manager’s ability to build a successful team with a clear identity. “At Coventry, Mark built something successful with a real identity and longevity,” Rose noted. “He left the club in a significantly better place than he found it. That’s exactly what we want to achieve at Stoke City, and he has all the pedigree and experience to help us do that.”

Rose, who joined Stoke City on a two-year deal in July 2023 after leaving Coventry as a free agent, has been a regular feature in the first team, playing more minutes than any of his teammates this season. He has previously spoken about the challenges of managerial changes and the importance of adapting to new coaching styles. “It’s been pretty mad to be honest. Difficult as well because I’ve never experienced managers getting sacked and a lot of change happening. This is the first time I’ve had it in a season,” Rose admitted. “I’m sure I’ll learn a lot from it and build on it for next season.”

With Robins now at the helm, Rose is optimistic about the future and is eager to contribute to the team’s success. He emphasized the importance of focusing on upcoming matches and ensuring the club’s stability in the Championship. “My focus is now on the weekend and just making sure that this club stays up,” Rose stated.

As Stoke City prepares for their next fixture against Plymouth Argyle, Rose and his teammates are ready to embrace Robins’ leadership and work towards climbing the Championship table.
