Myles Garrett’s trade request could be Giants’ biggest draft day win
The New York Giants might just be the biggest winners of a potential Myles Garrett trade. After another rough season with the Cleveland Browns, Garrett is understandably frustrated with the lack of team success. So, naturally, he wants out. Individual success hasn’t been a problem for the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, four-time All-Pro, and six-time Pro Bowler.
Unfortunately for Garrett, the individual accolades just haven’t led to team success. And it’s not his fault, either. In his eight seasons, he’s appeared in three playoff games, going 1-2, without ever sniffing an AFC Championship Game. The Browns are about as dysfunctional as any team in major sports, and it Garrett no longer wishes to be a part of it.
Many of the feelings felt by the star pass rusher are shared with the Giants and their fans, as they’ve been waiting for a while to end their own dysfunction and Super Bowl drought. For the G-Men, that starts by securing a franchise quarterback who can put this team in a position to win. This is where Garrett’s trade request comes in to save the day for Big Blue. It seems like they might just control their own destiny after all.
Myles Garrett puts pressure on Browns to draft his replacement at No. 2
The Browns, much like the Giants, are a QB-needy team. There are certainly similarities between the two franchises and their decisions to irresponsibly and purposefully put their teams in cap hell with terrible, long-term, overpriced contracts for quarterbacks.
That’s why, when the Giants ended up with the third overall pick in the draft, there was, and still is, tangible and legitimate concern over whether one of the top two quarterbacks (Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders) would be available when the Giants were on the board or not.
While the Tennessee Titans might take one of the two, the Browns might be forced to pivot from taking a QB No. 2 overall to replace Garrett. Luckily for them (and the Giants), there’s a high-rising prospect who could be exactly what the doctor ordered, and that would be Abdul Carter from Penn State. He’s got a lot of Penn State’s own Micah Parsons and Odafe Oweh in him, making him as close to a can’t-miss prospect as there is.
The Titans have already told the league they won’t be passing up on any generational talent with the No. 1 overall pick, so there is a reality where New York has their choice of either Ward or Sanders.
If Garrett’s trade request forces the Browns to pivot at No. 2, the Giants could stumble into their dream scenario—having their choice of Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders without needing to trade up. After years of quarterback purgatory—four alone this year—this could be the franchise-altering break everyone’s been waiting for.
Of course, it all depends on Cleveland prioritizing Garrett’s replacement over a new quarterback. But given the Browns’ track record, banking on them to overthink this isn’t a bad bet. If they do, Big Blue might just walk away as the biggest winners of draft night.
