“If there are players out there that can improve us then we’ll do that. There probably won’t be movement. It’s not impossible but we’re not expecting it and we’re focusing on the group here at the moment,” manager Kieran McKenna recently stated. The winter transfer window is coming to an end, and with just hours left before the 11pm Monday deadline, Ipswich Town could still add some players to their squad.
Manager Kieran McKenna has been cautious in his outlook, suggesting that business could be quiet. “If there are players out there that can improve us then we’ll do that. There probably won’t be movement. It’s not impossible but we’re not expecting it and we’re focusing on the group here at the moment,” McKenna said recently.
However, with a few positions still needing attention, Ipswich fans will be hoping for some last-minute action before the window closes. Ipswich have already made a few signings this January, by bringing in Ben Godfrey, Jaden Philogene, and Julio Enciso.
There are still areas that need strengthening, particularly in goal and up front in attack. As the clock ticks down, Mirror Football have taken a look at what could happen in the final hours of the transfer window.
Alex Palmer (West Brom – Goalkeeper)
Ipswich are closing in on the signing of West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer. Reports suggest that a £5m deal has been agreed for the 28-year-old, who has been a standout performer in the Championship this season.
Palmer’s inclusion would strengthen Ipswich in goal, with Christian Walton being sidelined through injury. Palmer has kept 11 clean sheets in 30 appearances this season.

His experience and form could provide the stability Ipswich needs, especially given Aro Muric’s issues with consistency. Palmer is expected to undergo a medical before completing a deadline day move.
Somto Boniface (Chelsea – Full-back)
Ipswich are also reportedly set to add a young talent to their ranks, with Chelsea left-back Somto Boniface nearing a move. The 18-year-old will join as a youth player rather than immediately joining the first-team squad.
Boniface, who is currently part of Chelsea’s youth set-up, will be a welcome addition to the squad. With Leif Davis and Conor Townsend already at the club, he will provide additional depth at left-back.
The Blues will look to nurture Boniface’s development, giving him the chance to gain valuable experience. His arrival will likely see him start with the U21s before potentially stepping up to the first team.
Flynn Downes (Southampton – Midfielder)
Ipswich have also made a tentative enquiry regarding the availability of Southampton midfielder Flynn Downes, but the move seems unlikely due to the high asking price. The 26-year-old former Ipswich academy graduate has struggled for game time under Southampton’s new boss Ivan Juric, with just one start in the last seven matches.
