Teenager dies after car crashes into wall during police chase in Sheffield

The 18-year-old was killed in a crash in the Hyde Park Walk area of the city on Monday afternoon

During a police pursuit in Sheffield, a car struck a wall, killing one adolescent.

The 18-year-old died Monday afternoon after a collision in the city’s Hyde Park Walk neighbourhood.

According to South Yorkshire Police, police were on a prearranged operation in the area shortly before 1pm.

A black Ford Fiesta that was thought to have been stolen “reacted to the police presence and tried to flee the scene,” according to a force spokesperson.

They claimed that after a brief chase, the Fiesta smashed into a wall.

After being brought to the hospital, an 18-year-old guy tragically passed away from his wounds. Specialist police have been notified and are assisting his family,” the spokeswoman stated.

While cops were on duty, East Bank Road was closed; however, it has since reopened.

Anyone in the vicinity at the time of the event with information, dashcam footage, or CCTV evidence is being urged to come forward by the force.

Anyone who may have been in the vicinity of City Road, Park Grange Road, Spring Lane, and Northern Avenue is of special interest to the officers.

“As is customary for such incidents, a referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct,” the statement continued.
