Sheffield Wednesday player exit was never on the cards on deadline day

Sheffield Wednesday were ‘never likely’ to offload Pol Valentin on deadline day amid links to Turkey, as detailed in a report by The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday’s wing-back was wanted by an unnamed Turkish Super Lig club, as reported by The Star. However, nothing materialised in the end and he stayed put at SWFC beyond the deadline.

Valentin, 27, is out of contract at the end of the season and he is due to become a free agent in the summer as things stand. He has made 27 appearances in all competitions so far in this campaign, 24 of which have come in the Championship, and he has chipped in with two goals.

In this latest update regarding his future at Hillsborough, The Star report the Owls were never really in any real danger of losing him on Monday on the final day of the transfer window. Danny Rohl’s side had a quiet day in the end.

Sheffield Wednesday update regarding Pol Valentin

Sheffield Wednesday need to address Valentin’s long-term situation at Hillsborough.

They risk losing him for nothing in late June if nothing changes.

He is a useful player to have in their squad and provides strong competition and depth.

The Owls signed him back in 2023 after their promotion from League One under former manager Xisco Munoz.

At the time, Munoz told their club website: “Pol is a very good talent, he’s a young guy, he’s one of the important players we now have in our squad.

“He has very good intensity. I know a lot about Pol, not only his capacity as a footballer but a personality as well and this is very good.”
