Despite talk that Russell Wilson may be considering a move from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Las Vegas Raiders, this does not appear to be his goal.
While Wilson was the Steelers’ starting quarterback this season, his future with the franchise is unknown.
Wilson, who signed a one-year contract with Pittsburgh last offseason, will be eligible for free agency next month, allowing him to sign with any team. While he has often stated a desire to return to the Steelers, recent occurrences have cast doubt.
The Las Vegas Raiders announced last week that Pete Carroll, the former head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, will oversee the franchise. Given Wilson and Carroll’s decade-long relationship in Seattle, reports rapidly circulated linking the veteran quarterback to a possible reunion in Las Vegas.
Last week, NFL insider Jeff Howe of The Athletic stated that Carroll and Wilson had “mended fences” and that Wilson could serve as the Raiders’ short-term quarterback.
“With Pete Carroll taking over the Raiders, Russell Wilson has been mentioned as a quarterback to watch. According to Howe’s post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, the Raiders have reconciled and Wilson may serve as a temporary replacement until a long-term solution is found.
Wilson, on the other hand, denied any such conjecture.
When questioned about perhaps reconnecting with Carroll in Las Vegas, Wilson stated unequivocally that his emphasis remains on sticking in Pittsburgh.
According to Mark Long of the Associated Press, Wilson expressed confidence that Pete will become an excellent coach.
“He’s excellent at what he does. But I’m focussing on the Steelers,” Wilson added.
Obviously, this does not guarantee that the Steelers will pursue Wilson, but it is evident that he wants to play in Pittsburgh.
