As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to compete for another Super Bowl title this week, quarterback Patrick Mahomes provides Royals supporters with something to dream about.
Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback, has a chance to win his fourth Super Bowl title in eight seasons and cement his place as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Fans in Kansas City are accustomed to watching their football team contend for a title every year, but they do not always have that luxury when baseball season arrives.
The Kansas City Royals had a strong season, finishing 86-76 and losing in the ALDS to the New York Yankees. Prior to the 2024 season, the Royals have not advanced to the playoffs since winning the World Series in 2015. Patrick Mahomes’ performance has given Royals supporters hope for the upcoming 2025 season, after a difficult decade in baseball.
Patrick Mahomes is as passionate as ever about baseball.
The Super Bowl is less than a week away, which can only mean one thing in the sports world: spring training is just around the corner. Even people attending the Super Bowl on Sunday are talking about baseball.
According to Bob Nightengale, an MLB columnist for USA Today, Mahomes has a strong enthusiasm for baseball. Mahomes believes he wished he had been a better baseball player and revealed his enthusiasm for the Kansas City Royals.
“I wish I had been a little better at baseball, but I believe it all worked out in football. I grew up liking baseball. I still love it. I am a die-hard Royals fan.”I love the game,” Mahomes remarked.
Mahomes, whose father played in the major leagues for 11 seasons, appeared in three college games for Texas Tech University in 2015. He had three plate appearances without a hit and one relief appearance in which he allowed three earned runs, walked two batters, and did not record an out.
Obviously, Mahomes has done well as an NFL quarterback, as he indicated, but Royals supporters can only imagine what a difference it would make for their team if Mahomes had the same kind of brilliance in baseball as he does in football and remained in Kansas City. Perhaps the Chiefs can share some of their winning spirit with their neighbours and help the Royals return to World Series contention.
