Official: Millwall sign Zak Sturge on loan from Chelsea

It was a busy transfer deadline day of (loan) departures from Chelsea yesterday, and one of the many late-developing moves was young Zak Sturge joining Millwall for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old left back, who spent half a season at League One Peterborough United last season, will be hoping to step up his development with this challenge of Championship football. There is no word on whether Sturge extended his contract that was due to expire at the end of the season — it’s generally standard process to do so, though not always the case.

“We’ve been watching Zak Sturge for a while now. We decided to make a move for him given the current situation. He is an athlete, is big, strong and direct and very attack-minded.

“We thank Chelsea for their assistance in getting this deal done – he is going to be a very good addition to the squad.”
