Matchday Memories: On This Day 2014 – See Sky Blue Franck & Andy Rob The Robins In Bristol

The Sky Blues, led by former player Steven Pressley, traveled to the wet west country on this day in 2014 (4 February) to play Bristol City in League One.

Due to a boycott by fans, they were playing their “home” games in exile this season at Sixfield Stadium in Northampton Town to significantly smaller crowds.

The club had to make up the ten points it had lost on August 2nd for leaving administration without a CVA.

At the time, the “Elvis” men were just below mid-table and had lost two of their last four games across all competitions (two draws and two losses) since their 2-1 victory over Barnsley in the F.A.Cup’s Third Round in early January.

The Sky Blues defeated the Robins by the odd goal in three on the road thanks to goals from Andy Webster at the 25-minute mark and Franck Moussa after seven minutes.

Wes Burns, a substitute for Bristol, did score for the home team eight minutes prior to the end, but it was only a small comfort!

Of the 11,272 spectators, 686 members of the Sky Blue Army returned home with great satisfaction!

The following is how the two teams lined up:

Joe Murphy, Cyrus Christie, Blair Adams, Andy Webster, Dan Seaborne, Conor Thomas, Carl Baker (sub. Mark Marshall – 72), Adam Barton, Nathan Delfouneso, Billy Daniels (sub. Jordan Clarke -78), Franck Moussa (sub. John Fleck -67), and Dan Seaborne were highlighted by the CCFPA as members of the Sky Blues.

George Thomas, Lee Burge (gk), Jordan Willis, and Louis Garner were all unused substitutes.

Aden Flint, Joe Bryan (sub. Marlon Pack -46), Adam El-Abd (sub. Tyrone Barnett -63), Derrick Williams, Marvin Elliott (sub. Wes Burns -64), Simon Moore, Greg Cunningham, Sam Baldock, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, and Scott Wagstaff.

Not used Wade Elliott, Brendan Maloney, Bobby Reid, and Frank Fielding (gk) are substitutes. Officiating: Andy Woolmer

Simon Moore later played for the Sky Blues in goal.

Without their ten-point deduction for entering administration, the Sky Blues would have placed tenth in League One.

That meant they had to settle for eighteenth place! The Robins placed precisely halfway in twelfth place.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and fourth-place Rotherham United were promoted to the Championship after finishing nine points ahead of Brentford at the top of League One.

Tranmere Rovers, Carlisle United, Shrewsbury Town, and Stevenage were the four clubs that went down in descending order.
