Tottenham handed Mathys Tel transfer deadline day alternative as £29.5m clause emerges
Liam Delap, a striker for Ipswich Town, is apparently a target for Tottenham Hotspur before the January transfer market closes on Monday.
During the Tractor Boys’ 2-1 loss to Southampton at Portman Road on Saturday, Delap scored his eighth goal in the Premier League this season. Even though Ipswich has had a difficult season in the top division, the 21-year-old center-forward has shown himself to be a valuable asset to Kieran McKenna’s team.
In the summer, the forward left Manchester City to accept a permanent contract with the Suffolk club. Pep Guardiola’s team has a £29.5 million buyback clause in his contract that they are free to exercise.
The Mirror understands that as teams from all across the Premier League are presently interested in the striker, City may decide to exercise that option prior to the deadline. Although our colleagues identify Spurs as a possibility, they are not the only ones who are interested.
West Ham, Chelsea, and Manchester United are rumored to be interested in Delap as well, with United now entering the fray. The striker would be seen as an alternative to Mathys Tel if Tottenham were to finalize a deal for him, as Ange Postecoglou is eager to bolster his attacking depth.
Bayern approved Tottenham’s £50 million offer for Tel this week, but the deal fell through after the attacker chose to turn down their approaches.Football.london is aware that Spurs must now go elsewhere because Arsenal and United are suddenly interested in Tel.
