Tottenham Hotspur suffered a big blow in their January transfer window plans earlier this week after being rejected by Bayern Munich winger Mathys Tel
Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly looking to buy Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap before the January transfer window closes on Monday.
Delap scored his ninth Premier League goal of the season on Saturday, but the Tractor Boys lost 2-1 to Southampton at Portman Road. Despite Ipswich’s problems in the top division this season, the 21-year-old centre-forward has proven to be a bright spot for Kieran McKenna’s side.
The Suffolk club signed the forward permanently from Manchester City this summer. Pep Guardiola’s team does have a buy-back provision in his contract worth £29.5 million that they can choose to trigger.
The Mirror knows that City may choose to use that option before the deadline, as clubs across the Premier League are actively scouting the striker. While our colleagues have mentioned Spurs as a potential, they are not the only ones interested.
Chelsea, Manchester United, and West Ham are all considered to be interested in Delap, and United has now joined the race. If Tottenham completes a deal for the striker, he will be considered as an alternative to Mathys Tel, with Ange Postecoglou looking to strengthen his offensive ranks.
Tottenham had a £50 million bid accepted by Bayern for Tel this week, but the deal fell through after the forward decided to reject their efforts. Football.london understands that Arsenal and United are now interested in Tel, forcing Spurs to look elsewhere.
It is reported that the 19-year-old prefers a loan move over a permanent exit to keep his options open. Meanwhile, Spurs can expect to pay between £30 and £50 million for Delap if they want to sign him permanently.
