Star slams Leeds United v Cardiff City decision and reveals dismay at official explanation after conversation
After Saturday afternoon’s 7-0 Championship thumping, Whites star Dan James was left perplexed by a Leeds United vs. Cardiff City ruling and the official explanation.
In the Elland Road match over the weekend, James, a quick winger, had already scored and provided two assists when he followed up Joel Piroe’s saved shot that Cardiff goalkeeper Jak Alnwick had parried into his path. It would have been a simple close-range finish.
However, James was poised to shoot when Callum O’Dowda of Cardiff tackled him from behind, and referee Michael Salisbury promptly gave Leeds a penalty by pointing to the spot.
O’Dowda appeared to be in danger of receiving a straight red card after allegedly denying Leeds a clean goal-scoring opportunity, but the Bluebirds midfielder was merely given a booking instead.
James, the game’s standout player, was replaced after Piroe’s penalty kick put Leeds ahead 4-0. James was happy with his team’s performance but disappointed by the penalty events.
