Sheffield Wednesday pursuit of Chelsea star could be derailed by Premier League transfer fight
Sheffield Wednesday target Aaron Anselmino and Axel Disasi will not both be allowed to leave Chelsea today, reporter Ben Jacobs has said.
Sheffield Wednesday are hoping to strike late deals on transfer deadline day. It’s been a dramatic month or so for SWFC and late signings are needed.
The Owls have been in need of another centre-back all window. However, despite persistent links with a host of players, no one has come through the door with the 11pm deadline moving closer and closer.
A new name was said to be on the radar at Hillsborough over the weekend, with Chelsea’s Aaron Anselmino linked.
Now, an update has emerged on his Chelsea future, and it could spell bad news for Sheffield Wednesday.
Writing on X, reporter Ben Jacobs says that the Premier League side will not sanction exits for both Anselmino and Axel Disasi. The latter is at the centre of a battle between Aston Villa and Spurs and looks the more likely player to depart.
More on Axel Disasi. Player has agreed terms with Aston Villa, but there is currently no club-to-club agreement. Villa are still trying.
Spurs have agreed a loan deal with Chelsea worth around £5m, but Disasi is yet to agree terms.
Reports have previously said Disasi favours a move to Villa but Chelsea are reluctant to send him to a rival for a Champions League place. An agreement has been reached over a Spurs loan, but the Frenchman is hesitant to join the club.
Sheffield Wednesday embarked on a fairly significant recruitment drive in the summer and bolstered across the pitch, but perhaps surprisingly, they didn’t sign a single out-and-out centre-back.
That combined with injuries has left the Owls a little light in that area at times this season.
As such, it’s a must that they bring one in before the deadline tonight. At this point in the window, a loan addition seems most likely for SWFC, but amid interest in both Anselmino and Disasi, time will tell if the former is let out by Chelsea.
LUFC, SWFC – Leeds United man Brendan Aaronson and Sheffield Wednesday loan star Shea Charles
It has been a turbulent month for Sheffield Wednesday. The Shea Charles saga was a nerve-wracking one but thankfully, that has ended with him agreeing a deal for the rest of the season.
The breakdown in communication between Dejphon Chansiri and manager Rohl had the potential to really derail things, but clear-the-air talks were held and their differences were put aside.
The breakthrough was only made last week with Stuart Armstrong coming in, followed by Ibrahim Cissoko signing on loan. The only senior departure has been Sean Fusire, who linked up with League Two struggles Carlisle United for the rest of the season.
