Sheffield Wednesday pursuit of Chelsea star could be derailed by Premier League transfer fight
Reporter Ben Jacobs has stated that both Axel Disasi and Sheffield Wednesday target Aaron Anselmino would not be permitted to depart Chelsea today.
On the day of the transfer deadline, Sheffield Wednesday hopes to make last-minute deals. SWFC has had a very eventful month, and late signings are required.
All window long, the Owls have needed another centre-back. But with the 11 p.m. deadline drawing nearer, nobody has shown up despite ongoing connections with a variety of players.
Over the weekend, rumours circulated that Chelsea’s Aaron Anselmino was being considered as a new addition to Hillsborough.
An update regarding his future with Chelsea has surfaced, and it may be terrible news for Sheffield Wednesday.
Reporter Ben Jacobs claims in an article on X that the Premier League team will not approve Anselmino and Axel Disasi’s departures. The latter appears to be the more likely player to leave as he is at the core of a conflict between Spurs and Aston Villa.
According to earlier reports, Disasi wants to join Villa, but Chelsea is hesitant to send him to a team that is vying for a Champions League spot. The Frenchman is reluctant to join Spurs, despite an agreement being reached for a loan.
Centre-back a must
Sheffield Wednesday strengthened all areas of the field during their summer recruitment campaign, although maybe unexpectedly, they didn’t add a single standout centre-back.
This season, the Owls have been a little short in that area at times due to that and injuries.
Therefore, they really must bring one in before tonight’s deadline. At this stage of the transfer window, SWFC is most likely to sign a player on loan, but given the interest in both Anselmino and Disasi, it remains to be seen if Chelsea will release the former.
The window to date
Sheffield Wednesday’s month has been tumultuous. Fortunately, the nerve-racking Shea Charles story is over as he has agreed to a contract for the remainder of the season.
Although there was a chance that the communication breakdown between manager Rohl and Dejphon Chansiri would seriously ruin everything, open discussions were made and their disagreements were set aside.
Only last week, with Stuart Armstrong joining and Ibrahim Cissoko signing on loan, was the breakthrough achieved. Sean Fusire, who spent the remainder of the season with League Two struggling Carlisle United, was the sole senior departure.
