Middlesbrough medical on Monday for player – Deal with Carrick’s side ‘good operation’ for club
Sevilla’s Kelechi Iheanacho is on his way to Middlesbrough on deadline day of the winter market, according to claims from Spain.
The striker has struggled for prominence under manager García Pimienta and the La Liga club have decided to let him leave.
On Friday, Diario de Sevilla reported the 28-year-old has attracted interest from France, Italy and the Championship. There was no mention of Middlesbrough or any other club.
Vamos Mi Sevilla FC now state Middlesbrough will be his next destination barring any last-minute surprises.
Michael Carrick’s side will sign the former Leicester City man on loan without an option or obligation to buy. The report adds the Nigeria international will carry out medical tests and sign the contract with Boro on Monday.
Despite being a dry loan deal, the report states it’s a ‘good operation’ for the Andalusian club.
Iheanacho currently earns €2m gross per year at Sevilla and Middlesbrough would cover a large part of his wages. The report explains ‘everything will depend on ‘series of variables’ linked to the frontman and Boro’s performances, and these are easy to achieve.
Sevilla are hoping for Iheanacho to impress at the Championship club in order to make it easier for them to sellhim in the summer.
