Liverpool in battle with Arsenal to sign Murillo

The 23-year-old, who joined City Ground from Brazilian team Corinthians prior to the current campaign, has become an important member of the Reds.

The Brazilian helped Nottingham Forest avoid relegation in his rookie season, even though he was docked points for violating PSR regulations.

With just one goal and eight clean sheets in 23 Premier League games this season, he has now elevated his game to a new level. Third in the table with 47 points from 24 games, the defender has been leading his team to a top-four finish.

Thus, it is not surprising that elite English clubs have expressed interest in signing him after being captivated by his recent impressive performances.

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool has begun preparing for life without Virgil van Dijk, who has reached the last four months of his current deal.

The Merseyside team may take decisive action to entice Murillo to Anfield in the summer after displaying “strong interest” in acquiring him to replace the Dutchman.

But since their best player still has four and a half years left on his current deal and has a hefty £80 million price tag attached to him, Forest doesn’t want to let him go for nothing.

Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have also indicated interest in signing him, in addition to Arsenal’s interest.

Over the years, Van Dijk has been the cornerstone of Liverpool’s defense, therefore the Merseyside team will be devastated by his departure. However, if they buy him, Murillo might be a wise addition to bolster the defense.

However, Arsenal already has enough players at center back with Riccardo Calafiori, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Jurrien Timber. In order to sign a new striker, they would be better off saving the money.

However, it would be intriguing to watch if Liverpool and Arsenal ultimately negotiate a deal to get the Brazilian before the upcoming campaign.
