Leeds fans gather at Elland Road to celebrate promotion
Leeds fans have congregated outside the stadium to commemorate the team’s first Premier League appearance in sixteen years.
The police and Andrea Radrizzani, the owner of Leeds, had advised supporters to stay at home.
But when West Brom lost to Huddersfield Town earlier, there was celebration outside Elland Road as the club’s spot in the top flight was assured.
To celebrate winning the title, Liverpool supporters flocked to Anfield last month.
According to social distancing standards, persons in England should take efforts to lower their risk of contracting the coronavirus and maintain a minimum distance of one metre.
While hundreds of Leeds fans headed to the ground, countless others celebrated the historic moment at home,
although manager Marcelo Bielsa had said he would not watch the game.
“It’s been such an up and down few weeks and the games have come so thick and fast that you’ve not had one minute
to get over the last game before you’re looking at the next one.
“You’ve got to not lose sight of the fact that we’ve been through a horrendous period and an awful lot of people have
lost their lives, I dare say a lot of Leeds fans too, and we’ve done it for them.”
He said: “It’s been a long, long time coming. Sixteen years of heartache and we’ve finally managed to get back where
we belong, all those ups and downs and it’s finally come to fruition.
“Let’s hope we can consolidate for next year and I’m sure we’ll put on a good show and show the world we deserve to
be where we are.
“I’m just hoping the supporters can be let back into the stadium, it’s fantastic but it’s tinged with a bit of sadness that
you’re not there live.”
According to Radrizzani, it is “vitally important we stay safe and keep those around us safe too by staying at home”
earlier this week.
In an open letter to supporters that appeared in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Radrizzani stated, “The fight against
Covid-19 is not yet over and we must continue to be sensible.”
West Yorkshire Police agreed with his views.
“It’s important to remember that Covid-19 is still with us and large gatherings are still not permitted,” a police
spokesperson stated earlier this week.We acknowledge that supporters will want to rejoice, but we ask that they
consider both their own and others’ safety and well-being.
“The safety of fans and the wider public is our primary concern and the safest way that people can celebrate is in
their own homes.”

Naturally, gathering in big numbers is still prohibited, and stewards were attempting to maintain social separation
However, there weren’t many masks on display, and it was nearly difficult for many of the fans to not be standing
