“It was a really special performance.”
Right now, Makhtar Gueye is playing well for Rovers, and John Eustace is thrilled with what he’s seeing from his big
striker.
Gueye, who has been playing well lately, opened the scoring in Friday night’s Lancashire derby victory over Preston
North End.
Throughout the match, Gueye was a nuisance to the visiting backline. Just before halftime, he stooped in front of his
man to kneel and nod into the back of the net to give Rovers the lead against the Lilywhites.
Eustace is overjoyed by the indications from our No. 9, who appears to be in pace to maintain his spot for Tuesday
night’s trip to Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
“I’m really pleased for Makhtar,” Eustace said to RoversTV when reserving special praise for the 27-year-old.
“His family were over for the first time to watch him tonight and it was a really special performance.
“I think he’s been having chances, but he’s really hungry now and is adapting to the league as well.
“It’s taken him a while to get used to that, but he’s certainly been a top performer in recent weeks, so I hope there’ll
be more to come.
“The last three or four weeks, his all-round performances have been excellent.
“He’s been dominating defenders and helping us to link up by bringing other players into the game as well,” he said,
discussing how the forward has matured as this season has progressed.
“It’s a great excellent find and Makhtar’s only going to become better. I think he’s adjusting to the league, and we
must keep in mind that he moved away from his family to a new league without having played in any preseason
games.
He has been working diligently with the coaching staff and has been doing that for the past few weeks and months.
“He’s bringing some quality performances now. As a number nine, scoring goals is what it’s all about.”
