Gala Fairydean Rovers have made changes to their team for the last three months of the Scottish Lowland Football League season, adding one new player and welcoming back an old one.

The club has signed striker Muhammad Adam, who was released by William Hill League Two’s Stranraer earlier this month, and former captain Gareth Rodger, who was dismissed by fifth-tier opponents in October.

Adam, better known as Mo, a Nigerian-born 19-year-old, joined Stranraer on a free transfer from Motherwell’s reserves in July after previously playing for the North Lanarkshire club’s under-18s.

A representative for Stranraer, which is now second from bottom in Scottish football’s fourth division, said: “The club can confirm that Mo Adam has mutually agreed to be released from his contract as the forward looks to take on a new challenge at another club.”

“Everyone at Stranraer would like to thank Mo for the commitment and effort shown during his spell at the Blues and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Edinburgh-born center back Rodger, 30, previously played for Fairydean from January 2020 until July of last year, then moved to Berwick in the summer before leaving the Northumbrians seven games and nearly three months later.

“All at Berwick thank Gareth for his efforts for the ‘Gers and wish him all the best in the future,” stated a representative for the Shielfield Park club at the time.

Rodger’s former teams were St Johnstone, Brechin City, Forfar Athletic, Montrose, and Stirling Albion.

Jake Nicholson and Tommy Sharp, loan signings from Raith Rovers and Livingston, will leave Galashiels’ Netherdale Stadium when Adam and Rodger arrive.

Three further players have gone out on loan until the end of the season: Reece Murray and Ben Reilly to Hutchison Vale, and David Maskrey to Edinburgh University.

Manager Martin Scott’s Fairydean club returns to league play after three weeks off on Saturday, hosting opposite number Ricky Waddell’s Caledonian Braves, with a 3pm kickoff.

They enter that game, their second of the year, third from the bottom of the table, with 18 points from 23 games, 14 places and 28 points worse off than their opponents from Motherwell, who had played the same amount of games.
