Former Reading FC player makes £12.5million transfer from Chelsea

Cesare Casadei, a former Reading FC loanee, has returned to Italy after Torino paid Chelsea £12.5 million for him.

Casadei, who was purchased by Chelsea for approximately £15 million plus add-ons, played the second part of the 2022/23 season on loan with Reading in the Championship.

Casadei shown flashes of quality and significant potential during his brief tenure in Berkshire, appearing 15 times in the Championship for the Royals under manager Paul Ince.

The Italian midfielder scored once, in a defeat against Blackburn Rovers.

The season finally ended in sadness as Ince was fired with five games remaining and Reading was relegated from the Championship.

Chelsea loaned Casadei out again last season, and he played 22 Championship games for Leicester City as they were promoted back to the Premier League.

With the west London club continuing to spend money on new signings, Casadei dropped further down the pecking order and had his opportunities limited, despite making 11 Premier League appearances in the second half of the 2023/24 season.

He appeared in six games for the Blues this season, five of them in the Europa Conference League, before signing with Torino.

Torino are currently ranked 11th in Serie A.
