Exclusive: Lawrence Shankland to Rangers could still happen after ‘second thoughts’.

Rangers

According to Football Insider, Rangers may still want to acquire a Hearts striker on a free transfer this summer.

On the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior writer Pete O’Rourke stated that interest in the 29-year-old has lingered, and he is still a prospective target at Ibrox.

In November, Football Insider reported that Hearts may sell the striker in January as a last resort to generate finances.

Despite this, any agreement is currently regarded to be improbable before the 3 February deadline, and would be more likely to occur for free in the summer.

Rangers, on the other hand, have had “second thoughts” about acquiring Shankland due to his age and failing form, and they may instead focus on adding a younger player.

Football Insider reported earlier this month that the club is looking for a “hidden gem” to sell for a significant profit.

Rangers consider Lawrence Shankland deal following fresh twist

Given Rangers’ precarious financial situation, they have turned their eyes to potential free transfers to boost Clement’s team in the summer.

According to Football Insider, a pre-contract agreement is being negotiated with 22-year-old Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron, who will be out of contract in the summer.

Shankland, meanwhile, has been a long-term objective and a lifelong Rangers supporter, so his availability on free is viewed as a benefit for the Glasgow club.

This season, he has only scored three goals in 27 appearances for Hearts in all competitions, which is a significant decrease from his 31 goals in 47 games previous season, which earned him the SPFL player of the year accolade.

Doubts have arisen at Ibrox regarding his appropriateness, and the deal would collide with Nils Koppen’s aspirations to bring in and sell younger players for a profit.
