Burnley suffer deadline day blow as £10m Wolves deal scuppers exit for Sunderland striker ‘target’ – round-up

All of the latest Sunderland transfer news and rumours.

With just hours remaining in the January transfer window, Sunderland are still looking to complete a number of transactions.

In terms of incomings, Liverpool striker Jayden Danns is said to be close to a loan move to the Stadium of Light, while all eyes are on Tommy Watson as Brighton and Hove Albion try to finalise a deal that would see the teenage winger leave Wearside just months after breaking into the first team picture. If Watson leaves, Sunderland may be forced to find a replacement.

But, as the time ticks down and things become increasingly frenzied, what other deals are in the works? Here’s a roundup of Sunderland-related transfer news you may have missed in the last few hours…

Wolves set to thwart Ndiaye’s exit.

Senegalese forward Pape Cherif Ndiaye, who presently plays for Serbian club Red Star Belgrade, was one of the attacking players associated with Sunderland in the later stages of this transfer season.

Earlier today, it was claimed that the 29-year-old was still a “option” for the Black Cats, but it appears that his chances of departing are becoming increasingly small.

For starters, Sunderland are believed to be closing in on the aforementioned Danns, a transaction that would certainly eliminate the need to add another centre attacker. For another, Wolves made a £10 million deal for Red Star centre-back Nasser Djiga, which was approved.

According to The Mirror, the defender is now on his way to England to have a physical with the Premier League club. In exchange, Red Star is expected to turn down any further interest in Ndiaye since they do not want to lose two vital players in the same window.

While this may not be such a shock for Sunderland, it could be a setback for promotion contenders Burnley, who, along with Union Berlin, are saying..

Meanwhile, Sunderland-linked striker Daniel Cummings appears poised to stay at Celtic, despite continued speculation about his future. Because of his shaky contract position in Glasgow, the teenage forward has long been the subject of extensive speculation about his departure.

With his current contract scheduled to expire at the end of the season, it is believed that the player has agreed personal terms with West Ham, who have been presenting bids to entice him away from Parkhead this month. Celtic, however, have turned down those offers from East London, and as a result, the Hammers will now concentrate on concluding a pre-contract agreement for the 18-year-old to join in the summer, according to the Evening Standard.

Cummings, who was born in 2006, has scored 18 goals in as many games for Celtic’s B squad this season and appeared for the senior club for 11 minutes in a 4-2 Champions League loss to Aston Villa last week. West Ham are already close to signing another Sunderland-linked striker on deadline day, with Evan Ferguson apparently completing his medical on Sunday ahead of a loan deal from Brighton.
