Nathan Judah claims that despite the disappointment of losing out on Kevin Danso, Wolves are still hopeful of acquiring another defender before Monday’s transfer deadline.
A £16.6 million signing for Emmanuel Agbadou allowed the Molineux club to fulfill manager Vitor Pereira’s ambition of acquiring defensive reinforcements during this transfer window as they fight relegation.
After reaching an agreement to loan Danso to Ligue 1 team RC Lens, they were hoping to take things a step further. The Austrian international was set to have a medical on Sunday when Tottenham stepped in and snatched him away from them.
Wolves Still Want a Defender
Could sign two players before the deadline
But despite that huge blow and frustration at the club, a late night report from journalist Judah revealed the club are still hopeful of bringing in further additions before Monday’s deadline – with a defender still a priority.
Judah also revealed that there is an ‘outside chance’ of a second signing following, with previous reports suggesting that the club were eyeing a new forward as well as a potential midfield addition if former captain Mario Lemina departs for Saudi Arabia as is expected.
Wolves have been linked with a move for Chelsea star Axel Disasi on loan to fill the defensive hole in their squad, although Tottenham have a broad agreement with the Blues for a deal while Aston Villa are also looking to bring him in after selling Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce earlier in the window.
According to French reports, Wolves also made an attempt to recruit Monaco defender Soungoutou Mangassa before the deadline, and according to Fabricio Romano, the team made an attempt to get “superstar” midfielder Volodymyr Brazkho.
With goals from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Matheus Cunha, who has already formally signed a new deal at Molineux until 2029, the team defeated Aston Villa 2-0 on Saturday night, lifting them out of the drop zone despite being in the midst of a relegation battle.
