‘Anyone else’ – Fresh double injury blow emerges for Brighton after Nottingham Forest loss
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler said that after the 7-0 thumping at Nottingham Forest, he doesn’t have a midfield player who can play 90 minutes. At the City Ground, the head coach selected an attacking starting lineup, giving Jack Hinshelwood, who was making his first appearance after a long layoff due to a knee injury, the unappreciated responsibility of playing as the only midfielder.
A five-man attack was completed by Georgino Rutter, Joao Pedro, Danny Welbeck, Kaoru Mitoma, and Yankuba Minteh. However, an outstanding Nottingham Forest team mercilessly exposed Hurzeler’s system with a hat-trick from Chris Wood, followed by goals from Morgan Gibbs-White, Nico Williams, Jota, and Lewis Dunk’s own goal.
Due to midfield injuries to James Milner (hamstring), Ferdi Kadioglu (toe), and Mats Wieffer (knee), Hurzeler’s hand was partly forced. The German also stated that Matt O’Riley, Diego Gomez, and Hinshelwood were only fit enough for forty-five minutes. Yasin Ayari and Carlos Baleba, two midfield regulars, were also sidelined due to “muscular issues” just before the Premier League match.
Following the game at the City Ground, Hurzeler stated, “We try to work on it.” “We try to improve it, and I won’t point the finger at anyone else because, in the end, injuries are just excuses.”Since we ultimately still had a quality team that could win a Premier League match, we ought to concentrate on the guys that participated and work to improve the next time. Hurzeler has never once made advantage of Brighton’s severe injury problems this season as an excuse.
The German went on to say, “In the end, we didn’t have a midfielder on the bench who could play for 90 minutes.” As a result, we had to decide how we wanted to proceed.”But like I said, it was my conviction that this might be the right starting XI,” the player said of his decision to start with a strong attacking starting lineup. “I ultimately accept responsibility for that and reflect on it afterwards.”
