Wilder on latest arrivals

The Blades have had another busy week on the recruitment front, with manager Chris Wilder thrilled to add Hamza Choudhury and Harry Clarke to his squad.

The two became the third and fourth signings of the January transfer window, following Ben Brereton Diaz and Tom Cannon.

On Clarke, who arrives on loan until the end of the season, Wilder stated:

“It’s been on our list for quite some time. We’ve had this list since the beginning of the season. I mentioned that we were a little undercooked at the start, and we had a few minor challenges in that regard, so we needed competition. Femi (Seriki) has been hurt slightly, therefore there should be rivalry for that spot. Jamie Shackleton, who came in to compete, was injured, so we needed to strengthen there, which we did with Harry.

“He’s had success in the last two seasons, including two promotions, so he understands how to win. He was overjoyed that we expressed an interest in him, and it was a really straightforward one.”

Wilder worked with Choudhury when he was manager of Watford and was delighted to be reunited with the Leicester City loanee, who is also here till the end of the season, with United having the option to buy in the summer.

Wilder repeated, “Number one target all the way through.” I worked with Hamza at Watford and saw him play as a 15-year-old for Leicester in a pre-season game against Northampton, so I’ve always kept track of him.

“I loved his personality. A player who has been a part of teams who have won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and competed in the Champions League. To play for a team that has long been an established Premier League side attempting to break into Europe – they had a bad season and were relegated, which can happen to anyone. Straight back up, and he was a part of it. Another who has tasted success and understands how to exit the division.”
