Exclusive: Norwich set to sign Brighton ace McConville on loan.

According to Football Insider, Brighton intend to loan out teenage defender Ruairi McConville to the Championship, with Norwich leading the race. McConville has progressed through the Seagulls’ development systems in recent years, making his first-team debut in last month’s FA Cup third round triumph over Norwich. The 19-year-old has already been capped at senior international level by Northern Ireland in the last year. He is now set for a temporary departure from Brighton before the transfer window ends on Monday, which may see him reunited with the Carrow Road club.

Norwich in pole position to sign Brighton starlet

McConville has yet to add to the one senior club appearance he made for Fabian Hurzeler’s side in their cup victory against Norwich. As a result, Brighton plans to loan the centre-back to the second tier in the last days of the current market. Norwich are presently leading the fight to sign the Northern Irishman on a temporary basis.

The Canaries have already completed permanent deals for Anis Ben Slimane and Matej Jurasek in the current window, while also signing Lewis Dobbin on loan from Aston Villa.
After a 1-0 victory over Watford on Saturday (1 February), Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side is now only two points behind the top six in the race for a Championship play-off position. Brighton, on the other side, had a disastrous day at the City Ground, losing 7-0 to Nottingham Forest. McConville is one of several players who might depart the AMEX Stadium in the coming days, including striker Evan Ferguson, who is garnering interest from a number of other clubs.
